Ductless Mini-Splits

Ductless Mini-Splits

Mitsubishi Eletric

Single Zone:

In standard duct HVAC systems, some areas tend to be warmer or cooler than others.  With single zone ductless heating and cooling, you have the ability to customize certain areas of your home.  The installation of a single zone ductless heating or cooling system might make sense if you live in an old home with no room for duct work, or if you just had an addition put on.  These systems might also make sense for enclosed patios, bonus rooms, home offices or bedrooms.

Having one system control the temperature of an entire home is inefficient.  However, installing a ductless single zone heating and cooling system means you are able to control heat or air when and where you need.  By targeting areas, these systems are more efficient than that of traditional duct systems.

Multi Zone:

Traditional duct HVAC systems have a central control that heats or cools large areas or entire homes. These systems have large outdoor systems with a lot of duct work. However, multi-zone ductless heating and cooling systems connects multiple air handling units to a single outdoor condensing unit.  This system allows you to direct air or heat where you need it most with efficiency.

With the ability to direct air or heat, you are able to provide comfort conditioning to rooms used most or the entire home.  For example, some rooms might heat easier than others, so other rooms need more direct heat and, in the summer, that room might need more air. These systems save you money because you are able to control where the air and heat is going – if a room is unoccupied you can turn the system off without sacrificing the entire home.

Benefits

Ductless heating and cooling systems offer an array of benefits.  For one, they are highly flexible solutions.  Meaning, traditional duct systems force air through the system to get to all areas of your home.  However, ductless systems are able to direct air delivering the needed comfort to specific zones of your home.  These systems are a cost-effective way to replace window A/C units, space heaters and electric baseboard heaters.

Ductless systems also have the ability to save you money – they are typically smaller than traditional systems, so they operate on less energy.  With that, being said, since they are able to direct heat and air, they work more efficiently, allowing you to direct the energy where you need it without wasting energy on an entire home.

While holding the ability to save you money, they also save you time.  Traditional duct systems can take several weeks to install.  Ductless systems are less invasive and depending on the project can take just one day with no need to break down walls.

Further, these systems have the ability to improve indoor air quality.  It has been found that indoor air quality can hold more pollutants than that of outdoor air.  Traditional duct systems need to be cleaned regularly by professionals, and although they have been cleaned there is no saying they didn’t leave anything behind.  On the other hand, ductless systems have multi filtration systems built in to reduce debris and other pollutants in the air giving you cleaner indoor air.

Lastly, by installing a ductless heating or cooling system, you have the ability to lower your carbon footprint.  These systems are highly energy efficient and follow the ENERGY STAR guidelines.  These guidelines are far stricter than the standard U.S. guidelines.  While saving money on energy costs, you will be reducing your carbon footprint reducing your impact on the environment.
